Two-time Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim is trying to remain positive after dislocating her shoulder, less than a month ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
On Jan. 8, the 25-year-old posted a video on Instagram informing her fans that she suffered an injury and is waiting to learn more about the severity. “I hate that I have to make this video but I just felt that it was necessary so here we go,” she began.
Kim explained she is currently in Switzerland and that during the second day of training she “took the silliest fall.”
The snowboarder included a clip of the moment she fell down a slope and hurt her shoulder.
“That ultimately resulted in me dislocating my shoulder, which is so fun,” she continued sarcastically. “(I’m) trying to stay really optimistic. I think I don’t have much clarity right now because I haven’t gotten an MRI yet but that’s scheduled for tomorrow.”
She said she is attempting to focus on the positives and isn’t in a lot of pain. But, she added that her shoulder keeps popping out of its socket since the injury.
Still, she is staying level-headed. “I feel really good about where my snowboarding is at right now. So I know that the minute I get cleared and I’m good to go, I should be fine. I’m just hoping that that doesn’t take too long, but I’m going to be chilling for the next little while.”
Kim asked her fans to send tips on how she should spend her downtime.
In the caption, she echoed the positivity in her video. “I have gone through so many waves of emotions I literally have a migraine. The only thing I can do is rest/do everything in my power to come back as soon as possible,” she wrote. “Thank you all for supporting me on this wild journey! will keep you posted :) p.s I think I am getting old.”
Fans and friends offered support in the comments. Olympic gold medalist Shaun White said, “YOU GOT THIS CHLOE.”
Paralympic gold medalist Oksana Masters wrote, “Fingers crossed for a successful mri and strong, smooth, fast healing.”

The Milan Cortina Winter Olympic Games are less than 30 days away, and many athletes have their eyes set on the podium. Team USA finalized the roster for men’s and women’s sled hockey and other teams last week.
For Kim, she is looking to defend her gold medal after winning it in halfpipe at the 2018 Pyeongchang and 2022 Beijing Olympics. Her win in Pyeongchang made her the youngest female Olympic gold medalist in snowboarding history at just 17. When she competed in Beijing, she made history again as the first woman to win two gold medals in halfpipe.
Prior to the last games, she spoke with TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie in February 2022 and revealed that she almost didn’t compete in Beijing.
“My first one was really overwhelming. I was not expecting that kind of response,” she said at the time about her overnight celebrity. “So then I kind of got scared. I got really bad anxiety. I was like, ‘OK, maybe I can’t do that again because I just don’t know if I can handle it.’ But that’s when I went to school and that really gave me a good reset.”
She took a break to attend Princeton University and later returned to the sport after two years off.
